Restoration / Relic for electric guitars and basses

Finish ages like skin, and a played instrument should be able to tell its story: the patina of time is an asset, not a flaw. For us, restoration does not mean erasing the years; it means restoring full functionality while respecting the instrument's history — and value.

Restoration / Relic

Time is part of the instrument.

A vintage instrument carries decades of music with it. Our job is to make it play them once again.

Typical work

Restoring the functionality and original condition of vintage instruments, including those that have been drastically modified. Using the paints and finishes a period instrument calls for. Every choice — preserve, integrate or replace — is discussed with the owner before work begins.

Relic

We are often asked to restore vintage instruments that have been improperly refinished, or to age instruments that look too new and give them a lived-in appearance. Contact us to find out whether we can do this for yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Restoration: what we are asked for most often.

Do you also restore acoustic, classical, or string instruments?
No: the workshop specializes exclusively in electric guitars and basses, including semi-acoustic models.
Conservative restoration or restoration to new condition?
It depends on the instrument and what you are looking for: let's evaluate together what to preserve and what to restore, always explaining the impact of each choice on the instrument's value.
Can you relic any type of instrument?
No. To achieve a convincing result, the instrument needs a nitrocellulose finish. Two-component polyurethane or polyester finishes are not suitable.
